Beyond general check-ups:

Professional Clean

A professional dental clean uses specific tools to remove plaque and tartar build-up from your teeth. This aims to help reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease, as well as the progression of other dental issues. Once there is tartar buildup on your teeth, this generally needs to be removed by a professional clean, which also helps reach areas your brush may not be able to clean effectively. At Dentessence, we offer a professional dental clean to support your oral health and help maintain a healthy smile.

Fillings

At least one-third of Australian adults have at least one tooth surface with an untreated dental cavity. Dental fillings can be used to treat and repair a tooth that has been damaged by decay. At Dentessence, we use composite material to help restore the tooth’s structure and function while blending in with your natural teeth. Fillings can help reduce the risk of further decay, restore the tooth’s shape and function, and support tooth health by helping to seal the affected area from bacteria.

Mouthguards

Accidents can happen – protecting your smile is important. If you’re playing contact sports, a custom-made mouthguard can help absorb and distribute the impact of a blow to the mouth to help protect your teeth. At Dentessence, we offer custom-made mouthguards using the quality materials so you can focus on your game while we focus on helping protect your smile.

Dental Splints

A dental splint may be used for people who subconsciously grind or clench their teeth while sleeping, also known as bruxism. During sleep, you can exert force on your teeth through repetitive grinding or clenching.  Over time, this may contribute to wear of the tooth enamel, cracks in teeth or dental crowns, and may be associated with jaw discomfort, headaches or neck pain.

At Dentessence, our dentists can provide a custom-made acrylic removable dental splint which fits over your upper and/or lower teeth to help protect your teeth from the effects of clenching and grinding.

Fissure Sealants

Fissure sealants are a protective treatment that aims to help reduce the risk of tooth decay. The chewing surface of the molar teeth can have deep grooves and pits where food may collect. Fissure sealants are a thin, tooth-coloured coating placed over these grooves to provide a barrier on molars or other teeth that may be prone to decay.

At Dentessence, we may recommend sealing high-risk tooth surfaces with fissure sealants in children and adults who are at a higher risk of developing cavities to help reduce food accumulation in these areas.

Dentures

A denture is a removable dental appliance that supports one or more artificial teeth and is an option to replace missing teeth. Replacing missing teeth may help support oral health, including reducing the risk of  gum changes and movement of other teeth as well as supporting chewing and speech.

Here at Dentessence, we can guide you through the denture process and discuss whether this option may be suitable for your oral health needs.

Gum Health

While you may think dentists focus solely on teeth, we also care for your gums, which are the supporting structures of your teeth. Gum disease involves inflammation and infection of the gums due to plaque and calculus. In its early stages, this is known as gingivitis, which can often be managed through dental cleans to help remove plaque and calculus, along with regular brushing and flossing at home. Advanced gum disease, known as periodontitis, involves the development of gum pockets and may be associated with gum recession.

If left unmanaged, this can contribute to tooth loss, and early detection is important. At Dentessence, we care for your gums as much as we care for your teeth.

Gum Contouring

The appearance of your teeth can be influenced by the shape of your gums. Gum contouring is a procedure used to remove and reshape excess gum tissue, to reveal more of your natural teeth, which may help improve the symmetry of your smile. The results are immediate in some cases and can make a noticeable difference to the appearance of your teeth and smile.

With laser technology, no stitches and minimal recovery, at Dentessence, we focus on helping patients achieve an improved smile apperance.

Your General Dental Questions Answered

Having a comprehensive check-up and professional clean every six months may help to identify dental problems early, which can assist in managing concerns before they progress and support you in maintaining your natural teeth for as long as possible. We believe that maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the most important aspects of overall health.

At Dentessence, we aim to provide high-quality, affordable dental services. Composite fillings typically range from $180 to $450, depending on the surface requiring a filling and its complexity. If you need a filling, we will provide a personalised treatment plan outlining the costs specific to your individual needs.

During a general professional dental clean, your dentist removes plaque and tartar (calculus) from the surfaces of your teeth at or above the gum line. In contrast, a deep clean involves the removal of plaque and tartar below the gum line and may be recommended as part of the management of periodontal (gum) disease. It can take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, depending on your individual needs. The duration of your cleaning will depend on the extent of plaque and tartar buildup.

Yes, a dental filling may be used to repair a broken tooth, but it depends on the size and extent of the break. If the damage is minor and doesn’t significantly affect the tooth’s structure, a filling may be used to restore it. However, for more extensive damage, other options like dental crowns or veneers may be recommended. Your dentist will assess your situation and discuss appropriate treatment options for your broken tooth, aiming to achieve an outcome that is both functional and aesthetically appropriate.
